Preparation Steps
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, corn syrup, and melted butter. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add salt and 3 cups of flour. Mix well, gradually add remaining flour until dough is soft and elastic.
- Knead the dough for 10 minutes either by hand or using a stand mixer.
- Shape the dough into a ball, place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 45 minutes.
- Divide the risen dough into 6-8 pieces. Roll each into a smooth ball and place on parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise another 45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Bring 4 cups water and 3 tablespoons baking soda to a boil.
- Boil each roll for 30 seconds, flip, and boil another 30 seconds. Remove with slotted spoon and place on baking sheet.
- Use a sharp knife to cut an X on top of each roll. Brush with egg white and sprinkle with salt.
- Bake for 15 minutes until deep golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
These pretzel rolls are best eaten warm. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
